Conbee II + deconz in docker on raspberry 4 - cannot detect zigbee devices

I have just installed a CombeeII stick on my raspberry 4 and installed Deconz in a docker. From the web GUI I can see usb stick as it detects the firmware version, but when I try to scan for zigbee devices (I have tried with Aqara sensors and Ikea sensors) I am not able to find anything, there are no errors in the deconz logs…please help

Hi,
I have been having a few Zigbee devices running for almost a year. But today I unexpectedly lost contact with them.
This is my setup:

  • Raspberry Pi 4
  • ConBee II, with latest firmware version
  • Latest version of HA (2021.1)
  • Latest version of OS (Home assistant OS 5.10).
  • Latest version of deConz add-on
  • Aqara temperature sensors and Hue motion sensor

This seems to be the same setup as @pierpa71 , except that you run in Docker. So we might have the same problem, or my troubleshooting might help you.

I lost access just after I had done an update of HA and HA OS, to the latest versions.

What I have tried:

  • Reinstalling deConz add-on
  • Removing the sensors from the Phoscon app and trying to re-pair both Hue motion sensor and Aqara Temperature sensor. Tried having them really close to the ConBee II, but no devices are detected - it’s just complete radio silence.
  • Changing power adaptor to the Pie (and confirming that it’s 3A)
  • From the Phoscon interface, I can see the firmware version etc for the Conbee II. So it’s connected properly to ConBee.
  • Confirmed that the Zibee channel used (Channel 20) is free from WiFi (Channel 8) (Before I noticed I lost access, I also fiddled with the WiFi-channels of my WiFi AP’s.)
  • Turned off all my 3 WiFi AP’s. That means that there’s only one neighbors’ Wifi left in the air.
  • Tried adding devices via the Zigbee Home Automation integration. Tried using both the path to the USB dongle that I’ve been using before (/dev/serial/by-id/usb-dresden_elektronik_ingenieurtechnik_GmbH_ConBee_II_DE2211638-if00) (accepted by ZHA), and /dev/ttyAMA0 (not accepted by ZHA)
  • Resetted the Gateway via the Phoscon UI
  • Changed the USB port of the ConBee II
  • Restored HA to a snapshot before the issue surfaced (this does not restore the HA OS though)

I’m totally out of ideas now. After the upgrade of Home assistant and HA OS, it’s like there’s aluminum foiled wrapped around my ConBee II. Hope someone can help.

@pierpa71 just to be sure: you are putting the devices in pairing mode, right?

Yep, I get the Hue motion sensor to flash green (as it should in pairing mode), and the Aqara sensor to flash blue (as it should in pairing mode)
I’ve been pairing these devices multiple times before without any issues.

Sorry for the confusion: my question was actually meant for @pierpa71  But regarding your remark about Zigbee and WiFi channels: do you mean your WiFi is on channel 8, or that you are making sure that you’re not using channel 8? Because Zigbee channel 20 and WiFi channel 8 have quite some overlap.

Yep, the channel 8 in the Wifi spectrum is dead silent, neither mine or the neighbour’s WiFi is messing around there. Hence channel 20 of ZigBee should be fine.

It’s strange that deCONZ seems to recognize the Conbee but that pairing devices in both deCONZ and ZHA is failing. Have you tried other Zigbee channels just to make sure?

I now tried changing the Zigbee channel, and something really weird happens.
I’m currently on channel 20. I changed it to 15, everything looks fine.

BUT! In front of my eyes, a few seconds later, without me doing anything, the channel switches back to 20!

So, something fishy is going on with my ConBee II.
I tried resetting the gateway via the Phoscon UI, set it up all again, it default to channel 20, and when changing it to 15, it changes back to 20 again. I’m completely lost here.

I tried connecting the Hue motion sensor with the Hue bridge. Works flawlessly.
This means that the sensor is working, and that the radio environment is not the problem.

OK, finally managed to get my zigbee devies working again.
Solution: Remove the devices from the deConz interface (not just the Phoscon interface).

Sorry for hijacking your thread @pierpa71, but I hope my troubleshooting help you in your troubleshooting.

Hey @jonasgustavsson.
Can you explain me, what you meed exactly with “Solution: Remove the devices from the deConz interface (not just the Phoscon interface).”

Which devices you mean? I ask because i have no devices connected in phoscon (webgui), because i’m not able to.
I have the exactly same problem, but running deconz in docker container on synology nas but but without home assistant. My stick is connected properly, but I’m not able to connect to smart devices. On my windows pc with deconz all is working fine.

Hi @MNieddu91 - welcome to the community!
I’m running deConz as an add-on in the HA supervisor, so my setup differs slightly from yours. With that said, perhaps you somewhere still get the choice of two different UI’s like this?
