2026.2: Home, sweet overview

You must not name it different!!
I named my first “Dev-Tools” and it it didnt work, now I added it again with the full name, now it works

:man_facepalming: it does not matter how it is named - call it whatever you like. What matters is a path.

yes please

Chiming in to add more pressure to a swift resolve of this, as, like many of you, it is one of my most used menu items in HA. There has been a LOT of pushback so far on this, and I think it is well deserved for a platform built explicitly around choice. Yes you can do the panel workaround, no that shouldn’t be necessary.

so about Proxmox VE being avaialble from the UI, does it mean we no longer require the HACS or it is not on par yet…

The Proxmox VE integration took some SERIOUS upgrades - but the HACS integration also took some other significant upgrades at the same time so - your choice…

‘need’ is more a feature comparison

hi to all,
Just wanna say thanks to the HA-team for putting the shared data out there in grafana. I really appreciate the transparancy. That is what this OHF is all about.
Making changes for new users in onboarding, menustructures and vocabulary? why not if can help grow this family? I was learning yaml back in the day and was BLOWN AWAY with the ui improvements somewhere in the 0.xx days (my backups saty 0.7). Now i am hesitant to let it go (…the migrate button in automations, scripts and stuff). Personally I am havin fun tinkering in yaml, but for new users the UI for automations n stuff is AMAZING, so why not.
Best to all!

This comes across as, let’s say, a bit intense. This issue has been raised for years at this point; feel free to read some of the old threads about it. It’s a well known omission. Lots of people want it, including me.

IIRC, it’s not easy to implement given HA as it presently exists.

No it has not, before users saw what they could in the User-enabled Dashboards, Now they a givin a Landing-Page, with Areas(all devices in any Area) ( Sure one can revert ones strategy, and not using Areas, AS these are now by Dev’s populated to /Home/Overview, for every user
There they also find the NEW Dashboard DEVICES, Also populated to ALL Users by Dev’s on Users Overview
Feel free to think again !
It would have been so easy to make the NEW Devices-Dashboards ADMIN ONLY(or optional)
Aswell as there is hardly any relevant Point in populate AREAS in the USER-HOME page
Areas and Labels was primarily added for administrative purposes, And Users have NO reason to have access/view to ALL, If any
EDIT: Don’t forget to check which options/access Users Now have to Climate & Security Devices , by Dev’s Choice
NON of the NEW Dashboards can be set as ADMIN Only, and Dev’s decide what will be automatically populated to these
Years of planning and creating has now turned into a nightmare, for me, with the few options we had for some kind of security-by-obscurity, now Dev’s Crashed It Totally

It was mentioned during the release party.

Interesting, I wonder how does it comapre nowadays but the integration page is rather lackluster, so it is hard to undertand what it returns.
Perhaps I shoudl run both side by side to see for myself…

Tysm for suggesting this, got it back. It’s not exactly where I’d like but at least it’s back!

This is just not true. It’s been requested in multiple WTH and similar events in the past and was highly voted for. Example from 2020:

And as linked in there, HA actually had the first steps to roles based access done already in 2018:

It’s just there’s pretty much no progress since then.

This feature is however unfinished. We need to audit the Home Assistant code to make sure that all APIs and service calls check the users permissions.

I don’t think this check was ever completed.

Anyway, this has nothing to do with the new dashboard. Just because a device was not in a dashboard didn’t mean it couldn’t be controlled by the user. If you think otherwise, you are simply wrong. Everyone can access everything and this has not changed in this update.

I know, i have been running HA for more than 5 years now, but those few options one had to make security-by-obscurity is now down the drain
Everything is now thrown in the face off every User, even those with absolutely zero knowledge/fantasy, decided by Dev’s, with zero options for admins to control/change,
@Fanful Do you really have a User, and tried recently, to access anything which are not shown on your User enabled dashboards ? , beside the obscured auto-added device/entities
Please do and try to let a i.e curious noob do
Admin-Only Dashboards was the only way to “obscure” Devices/Dashboards which a User shouldn’t tamper with easily

Here’s what worked for me to make a new theme get the blue app header back, and do the right thing for night mode. Thanks to the earlier posts (who did all the work)! You’ll have to figure out how to add the theme to your themes.yaml specifics.

Old Blue Theme:
  modes:
    light:
      # Bring back the blue header with white text
      app-header-background-color: var(--primary-color)
      app-header-text-color: "#FFFFFF"
    dark: {}

You can configure which items are shown in the sidebar for each user though. I have not enabled any of the generated Dashboards and am happily using the Dashboard I have created myself.

So do the other users in my home, without issues. Each user can have their own Default Dashboard even, so it can be different per user, which now syncs across devices.

No you haven’t Dev’s have, if you as a User(non admin) don’t see them for some reason, they can just click&hold in top of the meny, and then unhide them

And what prevent a User from choosing the New Overview ?

Nothing currently. But I helped the users setup HA on their phone and disabled the options the users don’t need to see.

A user needs to manually enable a “hidden” menu, and that hasn’t been in an issue in our household.

There is no real RBAC yet, which is what you are looking for here. You only have Admin or User level, at least the whole Settings menu is hidden for normal users.

read my post again

Not in my Household either, that doesn’t defend what Dev’s have decide to populate to Dashboards for ALL user
As there is no RBAC, does either , as a user can change his/her password to i.e 1, “dash”, “space” or A, does either

All it takes is knowing an URL, or clicking the search icon or using a keyboard shortcut. To be honest, the editing of side panel is more hidden than those options. The security by obscurity you claim was there was like closing your eyes and pretending your are invisible.
