It really depends on how we implement it and we haven’t made a decision on that yet. A complex permissions system isn’t strictly necessary. Instead, a sandboxed dashboard could limit access to displayed entities while blocking everything else.
To be honest, this is just a suggestion as there is no active development on this yet. Once we begin, we’ll communicate on this.
I am having the same exact issue. Pushing a dashboard via puppet with a light e-ink theme, but have a frosted glass dark theme elsewhere. My e-ink display is now showing in dark mode, but my phone app keeps showing up in the e-ink light theme - and I have to change it nearly every time I use the app.
I have to agree that the word force is very apt here. All these new dashboards are being created with no way to disable them or make them admin only. This means that all the users of the system that may have had specific dashboards created just for them suddenly have these extra dashboards that have access to all devices in the system!
Right now that’s not too much of an issue. My wife and I are the only ones with access, and she only ever uses the dashboard I created, but she gets confused if she opens the hamburger menu on her phone and sees all these other dashboards. Sure, she could disable having them visible for herself, but there is no way to disable them globally without other things that could cause issues in the future or not be able to use certain features that you want to use but are tied up in the configuration of these forced dashboards.
It seems there would be a serious tension between making HA available for beginners and advanced users moving forward. Please see my feedback on possible solutions below.
I would suggest that HA developers look into adopting two profiles: one for beginners and one for advanced users, recognizing that advanced users may want more choice, more control and may be more resistant to changing their existing set-up or HA instances.
The option to select a beginner user profile and advanced user profile should be available during the on-boarding process and settings. For example, the developer tools in the sidebar should be included only in the advanced user profile while removing it for beginners. The option to switch between advanced user profile and beginner user profile would need to be included in the settings.
Additionally, when RBAC is fully implemented, the dichotomy between the beginner user profile and advanced user profile should be included in the advanced user profile with an option for advanced users to assign some advanced user profile features or roles to beginners.
This approach or tiering of user profile features would recognize choice, freedom, use case, flexibility and so on of the different users HA is targeting. It would make developing HA more frictionless going forward.
This already exists for advanced users, but many people don’t fit in that category. The majority of the complaints here are coming from the middle ground users.
I know I can turn on the advanced mode but I am not exactly clear on what is fully included in it.
I would suggest that HA developers look again at the advanced user profile with a view to including options such as dashboard features, sidebar features and so on for advanced users.
Also, making user profile more visible in a way that advanced user can select some features to show and not show would satisfy those who are not exactly beginners nor advanced users. In other words, more enhancement, visibility, flexibility and ability to include or exclude options/features may be useful and helpful for different user regardless of their skills.
Ok. So I probably missed something. I read that this new “Home” dashboard would be the default dashboard for new users. I am not a new user and I have set a custom user-created dashboard as the default dashboard for all users. But everytime I open the start URL of HA or I open the HA app on my phone, it shows me this new “Home” page that I DO NOT have configured as default.
No bookmarks. I just open the clean base HA URL and a clean launch of the HA app. It always opens the new Home page. My user created default dash is also called “Overview” so maybe that is why it defaults to the system built-in “Overview” dashboard.
Anyway. I fixed it by setting overriding the default dashboard in the user settings. But I don’t like that I have to do this for all my users.
I had the default dashboard set via the dashboard page (the 3 points > Set as default). I tried selecting something as as default and then setting it back to my Overview dashboard, but that did not fix it.
But selecting something else as the default dashboard in my USER settings and setting it back to auto, fixed it. Also fixed for other users without having them do the same thing.
Refreshing the page, yes. Clearing the cache, no, did not try that. Sorry.
But even force-closing the app on android and re-opening it, did not solve it.
I just update my core to 2026.2.1 and i don’t find “Developper tools” on left !!! Dashboard: auto (use system settings) advanced mode. I dont know what to do … Help sorry for my poor english…i have made ctrl f5 and f5…
