20USD easy to install homeassistant supervised host ("haos like" with addons / dq08 tvbox / rk3528 4g ram)

Sorry: been a while since i logged in here.
As far as I can see, externally it just has a built in line display on the front of the box which gives some status display and ‘fancy’ multi-color light on top.
Wifi 6 and BT 5.0 reported but I am not using.
Pics of the board being added.

Under your HA build, display shows consecutively the IP, Processor use % and memory usage % - I was expecting nothing.

In TV box mode it shows time for sure in standby, and probably volume, channel etc in use… (i only ran it to check its operation so don’t remember).

Don

this box looks a lot like mine… did you manage to make an image of the original firmware on the 2nd one before flashing?

you can find it here

@fensoft , I have built 2 boxes with the chipset RK3528 with your image. In the 1st box audio is working fine without any issue, in the 2nd box it was working earlier but stopped working. Is there any driver or setting that I have to restart or modify to make it working?

hi,
i never used the audio so I don’t know

Hi @fensoft, would this work for this box?
There’s a shop selling 2 variant of 4g/128gb version of rk3528

i’m not sure but it seems they are using the generic board. so it should be ok

Thanks, have you tried running frigate on the box and how’s the cpu consumption?
I’m thinking of using gemini for object detection to reduce the load

A remark. Current image doesn’t work, probably because apt update fails.
It needs new public key.
Needs manual invervention into the process.

For anyone interested there are many RK3328/RK3318 based android tv box out there. These used are priced here in the EU from 10 to 25€ with 4G RAM and 32/64 G flash. Almost all are fairly well supported by Armbian (search for Armbian rk3318 CSC, community supported configuration??)

I bought 2 different and the process of starting up from SD is straightforward and all HW was instantly recognized.

These are 4 cores processors with enough juice to run a medium sized HA setup (no video management obviously).

i’ll try to update the image in few days

we can find RK3528 for the same price. RK3328 is 2017 SOC, RK3318 is 2019 SOC. RK3528 is 2023 and 2 to 4 more time powerful.

Yer RK3528 is faster, but from what I can see RK3328/3318 are all fairly well supported, not so clear if it’s the same with newer SOCs

I have got a RK3528 with 4 GB/64GB however unable to boot into Maskrom method. If you @fensoft @wrongisthenwright have any image or suggestion to boot this please let me know. I have tried the multiboot option as well still I am unable to boot so currenlty the box is sitting there in my shelf.

Thanks for sharing this clear photo. I have bought similar box sometime back and searching for the Maskrom points. With your image + another forum I could find that. It is the 2 dots near the Main chip under the Aluminum heat sink shown in your picture @ 5:25 position.

@fensoft I am able to flash the image that you have built and shared.

Sorry I have no RK3528 devices, only a couple of RK3318…

@fensoft. If you don’t mind me asking this, have you got a chance to look into the image? I am facing issues related to apt update. Thanks in advance.

not yet. you can compile it yourself in a linux VM (or i can send you untested version because i don’t have access to hardware for the moment)

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I was away from this system so could not reply earlier. You may share the untested version, I will give it a try.
