ABB PowerOne Inverter - Need RJ11 connection help

I thought I’d set myself a simple Sunday afternoon task but as ever nothing is straightforward.

I have an ABB PowerOne Uno PVI-3.6 inverter and spotted that there is an integration for it. So I got hold of a USB-RS485 adapter and thought I’d give it a try. Various pages list the RS485 connection as via a terminal block or via a RJ45 connection. So I made up a RJ45 cable and popped open the inverter, issue one my model has a pair of RJ11 sockets. No problem I’ll use the terminal block, my inverter has had the screw section of the terminal block removed so all I see is two rows of 14 pins.

So I got a 6 wire RJ11 cable and configured it as an RJ11 RS485 half-duplex cable but the integration sees nothing. I’ve tried it in both the sockets and the termination switch is set to ‘On’. I’ve confirmed that the address of the inverter is set to the default ‘2’ but I can’t get any connection.

Does anyone have any insight to add on this?

Jason.
