I have a Home Assistant setup that I built for fun when I realized my Yolink temp sensors in my freezers would work with it.
In the last few weeks I’ve added a Third Reality Zigbee hub and ‘smart plugs’ and have gotten them working on schedule etc.
When I ordered the plugs I got a motion sensor for outside so I can tell when someone comes up the drive. I tested it with one of the smart plugs and plugged a small light in to it, and it works fine.
What I’m wondering is if there is any kind of ‘chime’ I can use with my existing equipment that I could tell to go 'bonk!" when the motion sensor triggers…?
Do you have any media player devices in HA yet. Like a Google Home, Amazon Alexa, HA Voice Preview Edition? If you have one, then you can play an audio file. I do this for a person detected by my front porch camara. I play an mp3 of a traditional doorbell sound.
Thanks for the response, I didn’t want anything like alexa etc to avoid privacy issues. I wasn’t aware of the HA Voice, so I will definitely check that out.
It looks like that is basically a voice command as well as ‘audio out’ device?
Yes, you’d need a z-wave stick, same as you would need something for bluetooth, zigbee, Thread, Wifi, RF or IR. I have them all. The beauty of HA is that you are not bound to one technology, protocol or brand.
