Add a "Net Grid Usage" graph to energy dashboard

I would like to see a graph of “Net Grid Usage” so I could see daily/monthly/yearly of when I’m a net consumer vs. net producer for the given time period. The Energy usage graph doesn’t seem to help with that.

I do realize that more fine-grain time-of-use (cost) might be even more useful, but I’m looking for how often I’m not consuming from the grid.

I find the “Energy usage” graph a little confusing and unclear how to use it. “Site” is my grid. Total consumed includes my battery, but did I really consume that or just store to be consumed later?

And “Total returned” - “Total consumed” = 70.4kWh, which isn’t my net usage, rather inefficiency in my battery storage, I guess.

Here’s that bar as “March” in the other graphs:

Consumed battery: Energy you used from your battery
Powerwall site import: Energy imported from the grid
Consumed solar: Energy you directly used from solar
Powerwall site export: Energy you fed into the grid
Powerwall battery import: Energy you stored in the battery

Everything over 0 you consumed, below you did not, at least directly.
Your Net Grid Usage is Site Import - Site Export and that is visualised by the gauge.

Thanks for the reply. My use of “confusing” was a bit, well, confusing.

There exists graphs for water consumption, gas consumption, and solar production, but no graph for just electricity consumption – meaning net electricity imported.

For example, for the last thirty days I can see my daily gas usage and note that it easily shows that I used a lot more gas on March 14th for some reason:

That same 30 day period for Energy usage looks like the following, but the "confusing"part is it’s a mix of data and not really showing me outliers w/o trying to mentally compare colors.

I do think that graph is pretty good for a given day, as this shows how it changed from battery usage to solar offset, to solar charging, and then to solar export once the battery was charged.

I’m not exporting water or gas, but those graphs are effectively “net” consumption. It just seems if there’s “net” gas & water usage, there should also be a “net” grid usage to be complete. That would clearly show days where I happen to import a lot of electricity for some reason.

Yes, I can do this in a dashboard graph. And yes, the value of it is unclear as maybe what’s more important is net cost (money) and that changes during the day and day of the year.

So essentially you want the same graph, but without solar and battery bars? That way you can see outliers.

Net cost is shown here

Yes, or in other words have a graph that mirrors the way water and gas graphs work – showing just grid consumption (but net).

This is what the utility shows on their website, which shows the net consumption by day.

Cost gets more complex, of course. But it made me look more and found something to report current rates. But we have “True-Up” and the actual purchase price is different at the end of the year.

Ok then you should go there and I think you can ask for a feature to “deselect” solar, battery etc. like in the individual devices graph and that they should add a default deselected graph with net usage.
