Add Aqara FP2 to HA (scenario with no Apple hardware)

How do I add my Aqara FP2 to HA please? Here are the relevant facts:

  1. no Aqara hub
  2. FP2 connects to router via WiFi
  3. FP2 works fine with Aqara Android app
  4. no Apple HomeKit hub, no Apple devices whatsoever (Apple-free environment)
  5. got a Sonoff Zigbee dongle connected to HA device
  6. got Zigbee2MQTT integration installed, in case it’s relevant

I have been looking around for instructions, and the closest I got was some mention about a HomeKit Controller integration that I need to add to HA, but I couldn’t find any such integration in HA. What I found was HomeKit Device and HomeKit Bridge (see screenshot below). No HomeKit Controller though.

What to do?

I think you need the HomeKit Device integration.

Thanks. When I attempt to add the HomeKit Device integration, I am given a choice of devices, none of which is my Aqara FP2 though (see screenshot below)! What am I doing wrong?

You have to get the FP2 into pairing mode. If I remember correctly, you have to hold down the button for like 10 seconds, at which point the FP2 LED will start blinking. Then start the HomeKit integration on Home Assistant.

I did put the FP2 into pairing mode, but I still can’t see it in the “Device selection” box.

Any other opinions?

I just added my newly received FP2 by first adding it to the Aqara Home app on android (to configure wifi and zones). After that it just popped up on my HA instance as newly discovered device via HomeKit. I never had to install any add-ons as HomeKit support is built into HA. This even was my first HomeKit device.

If it’s not popping up, you can pull the power of the FP2, wait a moment and power it again. If it still does not show up, there might be an issue with mDNS in your network.

After 3 hours of fighting and researching I got my FP2 connected. Used an iPhone and Aqara Home App, during the set up process it pairs the FP2 to the Apple Home App. Once you finish setting up the FP2 in the Aqara Home app on the iPhone, wait a few minutes to make sure it gets added to the Apple Home app. Then go to the Apple Home app and remove the sensor. This unpairs it from Apple Home and allows HA to see and pair with it.
As soon as I removed the FP2 from Apple Home it was discovered by HA.
First time I did this I did not give it enough time to get added to Apple Home. So did a bunch of other unneeded troubleshooting and research.
Hopefully this saves others the headache I had.
Cheers
FYI the sensor works great so far.
