Hello Home Assistant team,
I would like to propose an enhancement to the Entities list within the Settings > Entities section of Home Assistant. Specifically, I suggest displaying the unit of measurement (e.g., °C, kWh, %, etc.) alongside each entity’s current state in the list view.
Rationale:
- Improved Clarity: Including the unit of measurement directly in the entities list would provide immediate context for each entity’s state, reducing ambiguity and the need to click into each entity for details.
- Enhanced Efficiency: For users managing numerous entities, especially in complex setups, this addition would streamline the process of monitoring and configuring entities by presenting all pertinent information at a glance.
- Consistency Across UI: Many areas of the Home Assistant interface, such as dashboards and developer tools, already display units of measurement. Extending this consistency to the entities list would create a more uniform and intuitive user experience.
Implementation Considerations:
- Optional Display: To accommodate varying user preferences, consider making the display of units optional via a toggle or user setting.
- Responsive Design: Ensure that the addition of units does not negatively impact the layout, especially for users on devices with smaller screens.
Additional Suggestion: Enable Filtering by Unit of Measurement in Entities List
To further enhance the usability of the Entities list, I propose adding the capability to filter entities based on their unit of measurement. This feature would be particularly beneficial for users managing a large number of entities, as it would allow for quick identification and grouping of entities sharing the same unit (e.g., °C, kWh, %, etc.). Such functionality would streamline the configuration process, making it more efficient to locate and manage entities related to specific measurements. Implementing this filter would complement the existing filtering options and contribute to a more organized and user-friendly interface.
I believe this feature would be a valuable addition to Home Assistant, enhancing usability and user satisfaction. Thank you for considering this suggestion.
