I searched around quite a bit and I wasn’t able to find any sort of outdoor rated Z-Wave sensors for my backyard gate, so I found some parts on Amazon and built my own!
I’ve never thought about looking for a contact sensor that was made specifically for garage doors - very cool! The ability to handle a larger gap is really helpful. Thanks for sharing!
BTW - I too was using template sensors so that my doors would say open/closed and also have the little door icon on the front-end, until I discovered the device_class attribute that you can put into your customize.yaml file. Was able to really clean up my config and save some time for every new sensor I add - might be worth checking out to see if it does what you’re looking for!
