Adding Leviton D215S via Matter

Hi Everyone -
I could use some help troubleshooting and figuring out next steps.
I am attempting to add a Leviton D215S to Home Assistant and it keeps failing.

  • I have reset the switch multiple times
  • I got the pairing code from the MyLeviton app and I have deleted the switch from there as well
  • I am on the same network as the switch
  • when I try to add it to HA it initially required the code but then would fail to connect.
  • now the device shows up as “other” when attepting to add it again.
  • I reset the switch again and looked in HA under the Matter server and the “ghost” device does not show up in any location there, however it still shows up when attempting to add it.
  • I have gone to the Matter server UI and looked for devices and nodes to delete, but nothing shows up there.
I am banging my head against a wall and it is driving me nuts.
I simply want to get the switch added so that I can set up routines in relation to my garage door and garage camera. (privacy mode for the camera when the switch is on, resume recording and motion alerts when light is off)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Sorry I can’t help, as I don’t have this, but I am considering them, where you able to get it to work locally? (using Matter, and not the Leviton account)

I had forgotten about the two levels of reset:

  1. Setup: Hold top of rocker for 7 seconds till the LED turns amber.
  2. Factory: Hold top of rocker for 14 seconds till the LED flashes amber/red.

My process for clearing the D215S is to use the Leviton APP to get the Matter pairing code and ensure firmware is over 2.1.x (I’m running 2.3.41 now). Then disable any Leviton or Matter devices with the same MAC address in Home Assistant. Then use reset 2 (factory) and let it finish. Toggle the switch on/off while still powered (do not turn off circuit breaker). Then use reset 1 (setup), and Home Assistant integration for Matter to add a new device (using pairing code from above). Give it a different name in Home Assistant to make it easy to find the old stuff for cleanup later. Test with the devices control from Home Assistant. Edit any automations/scenes/scripts to use the new name. Done!

Questions welcomed.
