Adding wifi to Home Assistant Green

Hi folks,

Terribly sorry if this is miscategorized. I’m currently using Home Assistant Green, connected via ethernet from my router to HA directly.

I’d like to move home assistant to a more centralized spot in the home, and don’t want to run an ethernet cable all the way across the house. I purchased a Panda Wireless Tri-Band (Model PAU0F) wireless dongle with the intention of adding wifi to home assistant, but it isn’t being recognized when I add it to the port.

I beg the gods of HA to take mercy on my request for assistance as I don’t have a computer science/networking background and have little experience reading logs.

Thanks so much for taking a read.

Not all WiFi dongles are created equal. If you have a supported one, it should work out-of-the-box.

Is there an official page showing which are supported that you know of? I looked before purchasing and saw that it should work, but it wasn’t an official source.

For anyone reviewing this thread, I finally got it worked out.

Turns out, home assistant was registering it all this time! I didn’t have to fiddle around with the terminal or add any drivers. I went to Settings → System → Network → WLU1U3, which is under Configure Network Interfaces. I just hadn’t seen WLU option before. Once there, configure for your wifi network and you’re all set.
