Adguard and Eero

I am running Home Assistant on Hyper-V and I am looking to install Adguard.

I have followed the setup guide, but no matter what I try, as soon as I customise my DNS settings in the Eero app, I lose all internet connectivity on all devices. That is until
I restart Hyper-V and I then restore connectivity on the device Hyper-V runs on, but nothing else.

I have tried what feels like every forum but can’t find a concrete answer to my conundrum.

Hello Al,

Why do you want to install AdGuard? I suggest don’t install it if you don’t understand it completely, or expect more pain like this.
These DNS blocking programs will mess you up in ways you would not think possible…
I bet half of the People that come here with I cannot connecto to the internet are people with mis-configured Adguard or Pihole configurations that they set-up based on help here or YouTube, then when it breaks they have no idea what the problem is, and they just blame HA…

Hello,

I had it installed previously (pre-Eero) and I would like to use it again to block ads across my network.

I appreciate I don’t understand it completely, but then again, I can’t say I understand anything in Home Assistant in full - I am just keen to learn.

Adgaurd and HA works wonderfully and beautifully, without issues or complications. Your problem is with Hyper-V and port 53. So, as you are troubleshooting to find a way to open port 53 on the Hyper-V virtual adapter, just test to make sure port 53 is open before directing traffic to it.

This article helped me when I needed to open port 53 on Hyper-V. I hope it helps you also, but if it doesn’t, you will need to try other port forwarding tricks for Hyper-V virtual adapter before sending any traffic to your virtual machine.
