Adguard Home -RP4

Hello, new user here.

I have set up Home Assistant on a Rasberry Pi4, and added the Adguard add on, i think semi successfully. The Pi4 has a static IP

After updating the Primary DNS under IPv4 on my router I can see that I have a number of DNS queries, blocked by filter etc as below.

However I had blocked some websites which I can still access, on my iphone and on my PC, am I missing a step for this?

A few thoughts -

  • 402 is a VERY low number of DNS queries - but maybe you took that screen shot immediately after changing your DNS on your router.

  • When you go to Clients, do you see anything from your phone and computer?

  • You mentioned “primary DNS” - Do you have other non-primary DNS records as well? If so maybe they are getting picked up. I would remove them.

  • Did you verify that your phone and computer are using the AdGuard IP as their DNS? If not, maybe restart them?

  • If you’re connected to a VPN on your phone and computer, you could be bypassing your AdGuard DNS.

Great stuff, thank you Mike. I had missed the step where I need to change the DNS to the home.assistant number on the devices which connect to the router. Showing how much of a noob I am with this. Your clear instruction helped, thanks for your time.

Technically your devices should pick up whatever the default DNS is from your router on their own, without hard coding. I bet a restart of your devices would have fixed it as well. You might experiment with wiping out the hard coded DNS in your devices and then restart them to see if they pick it back up by default. But I’m glad you got it working!
