Aeotec Sensor purchase in Australia

Hi all,

I am looking to get into Z-Wave components for my Home Assistant setup. I have an Aeotec Z-Wave stick on the way.

Amazon doesn’t ship any Aeotec devices to Australia, I think this is because there are only some exclusive authorised online retailers in Australia. It seems we are hit with a bit of a down under tax (as usual) compared to purchasing from the US.

So looks the cheapest I can get it is AUD$85 + AUD$10 shipping from SmartHome (link above). Including batteries.

Where do you guys recommend I can purchase a MultiSensor 6 that will ship to Australia, anything cheaper than the above price or is this reasonable?

Or should I consider an alternative Sensor? From my study of the forums a lot of you utilise the Aeotec or Fibaro Multisensors. I am interested in a battery powered Motion, Temperature and Light Sensor. The Philips hue motion sensors look reasonably priced and have these features however they are not Z-Wave and would rely on polling the hue hub (which I already have) to react to motion events. Right now, I only really want to integrate with hue lights but I want the flexibility in the future to automate other items so route the motion event through Home Assistant instead of just the hue hub.

Thanks!

There are indeed just a dozen or so shops selling z-wave equipment here, and their pricing is as usual around the recommended retail price mark.

Hopefully you do know that z-wave is sort of “region coded” in that they use different frequencies and we only share the region and frequency with NZ. You can’t reconfigure equipment from other regions like Europe or the US. That leaves you pretty much with local online shops only.
If you are thinking about just ordering all z-wave equipment from a different/cheaper region, keep in mind that you won’t be able to buy anything with the AU 3-pin power plug from there.

Hey @exxamalte,

Thanks for that, no I didn’t realise that there are different regions. But I have purchased only Aussie stock. I found a retailer selling through eBay and had a discount code for 10% off on top. Hopefully investing in Z-Wave is the right choice

@KmanOz may be help to help I believe…

I’m asking one of the Aussie users I have been corresponding with and will get back to you if he knows anything.

EDIT: Just got a confirmation that my guy will be either reaching out to @adamrutt directly via PM or responding in the thread.

Hi Adam,

I’m the Aussie Rob asked me some advice on.

As suggested plenty of suppliers of aeotec in au.

Yes you will pay a premium for several reasons, freight, volume of product in au etc…

But the big thing I’m very careful with importing products into Australia, (especially AC power equipment) is conforming to local electrical safety standards, someone gets electrocuted or your house burns down the importer is liable. You import the product, your liable.

As rare as this is, I sleep well at night… I purchase ac stuff locally.

Without putting the fear in God to you…

That’s my two cents!

Rob.

Fair enough. Everything I have purchased has been from Aus so far.

What are your favourite retailers? Best prices?

I have been using smartliving.com.au Prices aren’t great but that’s the aussie tax :frowning:
Delivery is quick and it looks like they have been around for a while. Also they do offer pre sales support.
I’m also keen to learn of options in AU
