Aeotec Z-Stick 5+ or 7 with a Raspberry Pi 4 in EUrope

I have both an Aeotec Z-Stick 5+ and an Aeotec Z-Stick 7 (firmware 7.26.1) and I live in Europe.

I’ve set up my Home Assistant OS on a Raspberry Pi 4 and started with the Z-Stick 7 as it was newer (so better, right?) but that was before I read here Z-Wave adapters - Home Assistant that:

Aeotec Z-Stick 7 USB stick (ZWA010) (the EU version is not recommended due to RF performance issues)

Would I be better off with the Z-Stick 5+?

If so, what is the best way to migrate my nodes from the Z-Stick 7 to the Z-Stick 5+?

Go get a ZWA-2.

I already have 2 devices. I’m not getting a third unless none of those work decently enough.

The Z-Stick 5+ with the most recent firmware is much better than the Z-Stick 7, but it is severely outdated and the ZWA-2 with its unique antenna and Z-Wave 800 LR support is in a wholly different league.

NVM backup and restore using Z-Wave JS should work, but you need to have upgraded the ZS5+ to the latest firmware (Z-Stick Gen5+ V1.02 firmware update : Aeotec Help Desk if you don’t have it yet).

The radio performance is MUCH better: the health check for the most problematic nodes went from 2/10 to 8/10+!

I did, however, have to plug the Z-Stick 5 via an unpowered USB hub, as it’s known to be electrically faulty: Z-Stick Gen5 technical specifications. : Aeotec Help Desk
