just wondering, maybe I’m overlooking something, but this starts to annoy me.
Every time I upgrade HA core to a new version, recently 2026.7.4, but also previously every time, I have to spend hours again re-adjusting my dashboards, talking about margins, padding, sizing, formatting in general, etc, the fine details.
I’m using cardmod to modify my dashboards to my liking. If I perform cardmod upgrades, this never creates an issue with the dashboards, only core upgrades.
I’m just wondering if this is just me or is that everybody?
I like my dashboards to be neatly shown on the phone, meaning there is no scrolling, it fits perfectly onto the screen, but this is seemingly impossible if every HA core upgrade messes up the dashboards formatting.
What are your experiences? Is there something you can to about this? Any thoughts?
My life without cardmod is pretty quiet on each upgrade, so i would suggest taking this as a choice to make based on questions like:
-Do i really need all those mods
-Do i like all work every upgrade
-Is there an other option to style dashboard to you liking (you can ask on this forum or a gemini to check on alternatives and reconsider)
Cardmod changes things that the HA developers have no way of keeping up with. If you decide you want to tweak everything a few pixels, Cardmod definitely lets you do that, but you have to accept that you will spend time after upgrade tweaking things again as the core UI changes.
As the other poster said, my HA life got much less complicated when I deleted card mod and learned to appreciate (or at least live with) the UI choices the HA team has made.
I used to have a highly customised frontend but due to the constant maintenance required after each frontend update I’ve given up on all but a couple of custom cards and now only use card mod very sparingly.
Surprisingly my dashboards are still quite pleasing to me.
Also note that HA Dashboard is a legacy Python/YAML-based tile frontend that is all but deprecated. I have moved your post to the frontend category. If you really are using HADashboard let me know and I’ll move it back,
