After uncontrolled shut down (power outage) installation of HA or Virtual box corrupted

Hi all,

I didn’t find the answer in the various communities (or/and my search skills are insufficient). My system works on Windows 10 and the latest Virtual box and Homeassistant installed. All works fine when i install the HA from scratch. Also apps and other devices in my network can connect to HA.

This morning i had power outage. I can easily restart the computer and Virtual box. But when starting HA it ‘refuses’ to connect to the bridged adapter so an ipv4 isn’t assigned. DHCP is active when i check the user interface of Virtual box. All components are set in the way it was working before the crash. I also have this problem sometimes when i restart my computer in the proper way also nicely shut down the virtual machine. So it occurs quite often.

After reïnstalling HA and restore a backup everything is working fine again. But this way of working isn’t desirable at all. Does anyone recognize this problem and has the solution?

Yet another question related to this topic… I tried from another client in the network to access via WinSCP and Putty to connct remotely. I have FTP and Samba share installed, but also didn’t succeed to enter the back end of the installation.

Tips are very welcome…

First: get a UPS. Databases don’t like sudden power changes. You only need to be bitten once or twice before the small cost of one more than pays for itself - and when you do it go the extra mile and connect the USB cable so your system does an orderly shutdown.

Second: Go to the Settings->Add-Ons and install SSH so you can remote in as needed. SSH is not a default, you must install the Add-On to remote in. You can also install Samba Share and you can connect directly from a Windows explorer or Mac Finder.

Third: In that same Add-On store add the Samba Backup, this copies your backups to a remote server so you can lose HA and still have the backup file to restore it rapidly.

Fourth: Back up your virtual machine every day so if you have another problem you simply copy the backed up VM into place and you are right back up and running.

That’s how I do it at least.
