AirHealth HACS Integration - Australian Pollen & Air Quality

  • AirHealth is the company behind Melbourne Pollen (and sister sites).
  • In addition to the websites and mobile apps , they now offer a paid API for data access.
  • It provides 3-day forecasts (today, tomorrow, day after) with severity levels (Low, Medium, High, Extreme, etc.) across Australia. See summary below or their docs for full details.
  • I vibed a HACS custom component for it. Repository and setup instructions are here.
  • This enables automations to manage air quality exposure, such as controlling air purifiers, notifications, and window operation.

Other Notes

  • No affiliation with the company, but after contacting them about API access I became their first API tester and helped refine an API for the Home Assistant community as an alternative to unofficial methods like OzPoll.

  • The component is vibe coded, so your mileage may vary.

  • AirHealth is still early in offering this service, so there may be minor issues, but they have been responsive to feedback so far and seem keen to enable the open source home automation community.
