Alarm.com failed trigger due slow cloud update to Alarm.com

Hey Fam… still new at this but getting the hang of it as time goes on.

Issue:
My children forget to lock the car garage breezeway door when leaving. The door has smart Schlage deadbolt lock on it which is added to HA. I set an automation when Alarm.com for breezeway door is closed. It will lock the Schlage deadbolt after 30min to cover myself when the children forget. It does work!! But there is an issue…

Problem Alarm.com works via the cloud in HA. So the HACS intergration for Alarm.com does not update consistently. The door can be opened but it shows still closed and vice versa. However the Alarm.com app does report correctly for the door alarm sensor. In HA if I “reload” then it reports the door correct stated. After that, it will stop updating after a period of time. However, there is no way I can keep reloading this to get the current state.

Question:
Is there another HA device I can purchase to help me know if the door is open or closed so I can use that to trigger my automation based on the door’s state?

Or is there a solution to Alarm.com slow cloud updates to HA that I can apply to get a faster update?

Happy for any suggestions
Thx

Side Notes:

  1. My Schlage does have an option to autolock. Issue max time is 10min. And, it has no way to tell if the door is closed. Schlage could lock but the garage door is open.
  2. My automation tells the door not to lock when I have any of my 3 garage doors open. This means I am working outside so the breezeway door needs to stay unlock so I need smart automation to work. There is other automation I use to also tell it when not to lock.
  3. I use fp300 presence sensors in the house. A presence sensor will not work for me. I have to many garages lots of space meaning a lot of sensors just a waste. I rather it monitor the door “if” it has been opened to trigger automation.

Maybe solve the problem without sophisticated technology - update the children?

Seriously, getting a lock without being able to trust the current status is reflected accurately is a worry.

What in case of fire and internet loss? Are you trapped inside, pleading for HAL to open the door, and it replying it is already?

Feel that is the main reason people or plants have automation…children will be children. Automation does help to turn off lights, set alarms, automation based on presence, etc.

Schlage lock has a manual level on the inside to unlock the door. It’s a normal deadbolt also.

I found a Zigbee ZHA door/window sensor on Amazon since it works direclty with HA this will help my issue once I get it delivered.
