Does using Local Tuya instead of Tuya mean that I will have double of every device in Alexa? If I disconnect regular Tuya (in my case it is mostly Smart Life), directly from Alexa, then I lose access to most of my lights. Also Local Tuya won’t add a few devices like cameras and pet feeders that Smart Life actually has added - I’ve tried adding them individually but I don’t understand the logs well enough to know what the error is I’m getting. In any case, by disconnecting Smart Life from Alexa, I lose access to devices, but if i go through HA, which is connected to Alexa, then I have to have regular Tuya enabled because Alexa doesn’t pick up the devices if they are just in local Tuya. So if I keep regular Tuya enabled in HA, then I end up with two of every device in Alexa when I have Local Tuya also enabled. But then that defeats the purpose of having Local Tuya if I have to have regular Tuya enabled too. What am I missing here?
What you have alexa depends on;
- what skills you have enabled in alexa (tuya skill and/or home assistant skill)
- number of devices under enabled skills
I have both tuya and localtuya and i had to disable tuya based devices if i had enabled them in localtuya to stop duplication. Otherwise, home assistant would send 2 devices to alexa and you can have the third one from official tuya alexa integration.
Did your devices still show up in Alexa using local Tuya? Or did you just link them to Alexa using skills and then disable regular Tuya in HA? When I disable the Smart Life Skill, the devices still remain in Alexa but they all say offline, but then there is a second set of devices that are from Home Assistant, and if I disable regular Tuya then they also show as offline, so I end up with none that are online in Alexa. But if disable the Alexa - HA skill and just keep the Smart Life - Alexa skill, then I can’t use HA to control specific media via Alexa, ie: announcements about automations such as when my washing machine is complete.
I had difficulty to understand your question, let’s set the ground first.
Core Alexa integration allows you to control your home assistant devices using Alexa devices. (Initiated from alexa and coming to home assistant)
There is a custom integration which allows you to send announcements to alexa devices. (Initiated from home assistant and coming to alexa devices).
First integration is related in this context and these are my steps;
- disable tuya skill inside alexa app
- enable home assistant skill in alexa app
- connect localtuya devices inside home assistant
- connect tuya integration in home assistant
- disable localtuya connected devices inside tuya integration in home assistant
- initiate device synchronization in alexa so it will pick up all devices from home assistant
Second integration (which allows you to send announcements) is irrelevant in this context
Hi and thanks for the write-up. I almost got everything but one question remains.
“connect tuya integration in home assistant” on line 4.
Could you please explain this?
Setting up tuya integration inside home assistant
But why if connection already is set up with local tuya?
I removed tuya and instead installed local tuya only.
I am running fine with Tuya and Localtuya, they are not stopping each other.
But, running Tuya mobile app with Localtuya is not working good
