Inexplicably, yesterday at 11:47 all 3 of my ESPHome devices went unavailable. Two of them are still showing offline, but even the one that’s showing online isn’t showing as unavailable.
I’ve not been able to figure this out. I’ve rebooted Home Assistant Yellow, and I’ve rebooted the Unifi gateway. Nothing has helped.
Try simple things first.
You didn’t say you restarted the 3 ESP devices. If not try that first.
Can you ping them?
Have set fixed IP addresses for them?
Did you change anything on HA or the router or the devices in last day or so?
“but even the one that’s showing online isn’t showing as unavailable” is that meant to be isn’t or is?
Hi @Spiro! Thank you for your response and advice here. The one device that is showing online is powered by a PoE adapter so it rebooted with the Unifi reboot. The other two have not yet been rebooted, so I’ll go do that now. The only thing that I changed on the HA side was the most recent weekly software update to both HA and ESPHome.
Lastly, thank you for catching my grammar. You’re absolutely correct, it’s “is”: the device is still showing as unavailable even though Unifi shows it has an IP address, but pinging it times out.
If restarting didn’t solve the problem then try plugging one of the esp devices into your computer with USB and in ESPHome app select logs and then select Plug into this computer.
How do you know the devices themselves were not functioning?
Online/offline detection is done using mDNS and rebooting the router, Home Assistant, or the router interrupts and restarts mDNS discovery by as much as 60-seconds.
