Problem Statement
Currently, Home Assistant’s Repairs dashboard is exclusively reserved for core integrations and system-level diagnostics. While this is great for standard component issues, advanced users and administrators have no native way to push custom alerts or infrastructure failures (such as a crashed critical add-on like OpenThread Border Router, a down gateway, or specific network drops) directly into this centralized interface.
Instead, users have to rely on fragmented workarounds like custom Markdown dashboard cards, persistent notifications, or external notification apps.
Proposed Solution
I would love to see the Repairs system opened up (either via a new service call, YAML configuration, or an API) so that users and automations can dynamically create custom repair issues.
For instance, an automation could detect that the open_thread_border_router application has failed and automatically generate a native entry in the Repairs panel: “Thread Network Down: The SLZB-06Mg24 or OTBR add-on is not responding.”
Benefits
- Centralized troubleshooting: Keeps all critical infrastructure warnings in one single, standard place instead of scattering them across custom dashboards.
- Better visibility: Makes it much easier for household members or admins to immediately spot what is broken at the infrastructure level.
- Flexibility: Empowers power-users to build robust self-diagnosing systems natively integrated into HAOS.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this!
