Always On Automation for Critical Devices and Unavailable Alerts

You creating a problem that wasn’t present before. Ether use a smart plug that you can configure to be always on

What would be needed is to configure two simple things on the device:

• The power on state to “always ON”
• detach the button (if any) from toggling the relay.

Which can be any ESPHome compatible device but probably not (m)any matter ones

The matter specs don’t obligate to expose pretty basic features like “power on state”, “detach mode” and others (like OTA update) which means vendors can put this in their walled gardens and force the usage of their app and cloud infrastructure (including obligating to register with personal identifying information like mail or phone).

Is is not the only shortcoming (contacting apple/google cloud and tell them about the existence of your device) Matter certified devices seem to allow to put functions into a walled garden/ecosystem (for example only accessible via vendor hub/bridge/app/platform/cloud) and to expose only basic functions (like on/off) via matter It was supposed to make things better but matter at this point does not allow full ownership and depending on the device only limi…

Or use something without relay (could even be a matter certified device in that regard )
