Android 16 / Pixel 10 - Notification Icons

Just upgraded to a Pixel 10 today and noticed the notification icons aren’t working as expected. Wanted to see if anyone else has seen the same issue.

They’re correct in the notification bar:

But not when pulled down:

you should see the correct icon in the status bar, previously we saw this with samsung but they had a setting to turn it off. That does not seem to be the case now

Same here, just updated my P7P. Same applies to colours - custom icons and colours display correctly on my watch, as in watch displaying phone notifications. Awful change and the inconsistency really feels like a bug.

Agreed!
My Pixel 9a just updated yesterday and the color designation has disappeared in the main notification area:

In the immediate notification history, it’s still there:

But for the 24h history even the icons have disappeared completely:

Don’t you love half-baked OS upgrades?

I have the same thing on my Pixel 9. The icons are displayed correctly on the Pixel Watch 3, including in the status bar at the top of the screen, but not in the notification center. The colors are also not displayed correctly in the Notification Center.

Same for me, at least we have icons on the lock screen, cause I use them for notifications categories.
This is quite a nice feature as you can see the notification severity at a glance.

Same for me when I updated my Pixel 7 Pro this past week. Digging through system notification settings didn’t turn anything up that might enable/disable this changed behaviour.

Edit: I think this change also broke notification grouping. It looks like all my HASS notifications that were separated by group IDs are now lumped together.
Edit 2: I’m seeing successful grouping now - not sure why things were lumped together before. Maybe once they get old enough they get lumped? (Or I was just imaging things)

This isn’t a great workaround since you still need to separately set the notification_icon for the top notification bar and then you need to find a PNG of the icon and either store it in your HASS media or link to a web accessible version, but you can set an icon_url that will then show up in the pulled down notification list. For single notifications, it shows up on the right in addition to the HASS icon on the left. For multiple grouped notifications it isn’t visible until you expand the list of notifications.

Just had my phone update and learned this. Super bummed about this.

There’s an open issue. It seems Google changed something and unless we can get them to give us another option, we’ve only got workarounds.

Has anyone noticed that HTML isn’t working anymore either?

I can use <br> but not <b>HTML</b> like the docs suggest.
