Any A19 or A21 type smart bulbs > 100 watts?

I have a MyQ garage door opener. I put a dumb 200w led bulb in the light enclosure where it is a tight fit. I’d like to install a smart bulb, but the brightest I can find is 100w. I’m almost certain the answer is “no”, but thought I’d ask anyway. Can anyone tell me if a > 100w Zigbee, Z-Wave, or Matter light bulb exists?

FYI, the light switch for this bulb is part of the garage door opener, so I can’t install a smart switch.

-Thanks

200W LED would be big and produce LOT of light.

Yes, it is bright, which is just the right amount for it’s location. It’s located inside the garage door enclosure which reduces the brightness somewhat. This bulb is 3,050 lumen. Only consumes 25w though. Between it and the two ceiling lights lighting is adequate. I used to have a 100w bulb installed and it did not provide enough lighting.

This is it here:
Feit Electric A21 LED Light Bulb, 200W Equivalent, Non-Dimmable, 3050 Lumens, E26 Standard Base, 3000k Bright White, High Output LED Bulb, Damp Rated, 22 Year Lifetime, OM200/830/LED - Amazon.com

So it’s 25W bulb which makes more sense.

The highest I know of in the A19 form factor are Lifx at 1600lm.

I have a Philips Hue 100w 1600 lumen bulb which is my patio light. I bought a second one for the garage. But I don’t think it will be bright enough, I had a dumb 100w bulb out there a couple of years ago.

100w with 1600lumen is a pretty bad bulb.

Are you sure about those watt values?

Watt is what it draws of power from the mains.
Lumens is the light it produce.
Old incandenscent light bulbs had like 70% of the power converted to heat, where as modern led bulbs have like 10%.

If you want to compare light “volume” then use lumens instead of watt.

I’m guessing you want to use this light as your “regular” garage area light and turn it ON and OFF whenever you want instead of just having it turn when activating the garage door, (which is probably the case given the amount of light you want to get out of it …)

The bulb socket is usually OFF and only turns ON when you use the garage door, right? So, keep in mind that if you want to control it “smartly”’ you will have to rewire the socket so that the bulb is always powered… and while you’re at it why don’t you just add a smart inline switch module inside your door opener housing powering the bulb socket…?

something like this: ZIGBEE Relay

Here is the LED bulb. It draws 13.5 watts which is 100w equivalent. It is 1600 lumen.

No, the garage door opener has a button which turns the light off and on. In addition to the light turning on temporarily when the garage door opens. The reason I don’t add a smart switch is that it would not work as a replacement:

Now I also have two ceiling lights which I’m considering replacing the switch with a smart switch. That would allow automating the two ceiling lights. And a smart bulb would allow automating the garage door opener light.

Currently the garage door opener light has a frosted white plastic cover over it which reduces the brightness, which is why I currently I have a 200w (25w actual) bulb.

Well, they do exist, but not as a bulb as such.

This is not a suggestion/recommendation, since I do not know the product at all.
It might not even be compatible with HA, even though it says so, so check it out before buying!

Thanks, not for me in this case. But I added it to my Amazon Home Automation list.

Keep dumb bulb. Get smart switch even if it means adding separate switched lighting.

I can’t replace the garage door opener with a smart switch. The button shown on the opener is what turns the 200w bulb off and on.

But I might get a smart switch for the two ceiling lights. Which are inadequate. And while I’m at it maybe get two more ceiling lights installed all controlled from the smart switch.

What about something like this and just mount a light outside of the opener that plugs in.

You might be able to connect the garage opener panels light cable to a Shelly on its switch connection and then either use the same Shelly to control the light or just use the Shelly as a detached switch that sends a signal to HA and that can then send a signal to the relay for the garage light, which is wired out of the garage opener.

Using one of the ratgdo controllers you can control that door opener light from Home Assistant.

Just because no one has already mentioned it but using a smart bulb in the bulb socket of the opener is probably not a good idea due to everytime the opener turns off the bulb the bulb will go offline. If what you are looking for is to automate the bulb in the opener you might be better off using a ratgdo.

RatGDO can do that but that wasn’t what I meant

I meant add a seperate and independent light and switch and set that to on/off with door as needed.

Yes, I was looking at the ratgdo control but I would be too concerned with me screwing something up. Actually, I just searched YouTube for " ratgdo garage door" and there were at least several videos on installing one. It would also give you smart control of the door which would be nice.

There are only 2 ceiling lights in my garage, which are inadequate. I have the 200w dumb bulb in the garage door opener which helps.

I think what I might do is have an electrician install 2 more ceiling lights, and also a smart switch.
