Any experience with FIBARO Nice BiDi-ZWave (IBT4ZWAVE)

I would like to connect my RD400 Nice gates to HA. The RD400 has a ZWave extension, the FIBARO Nice BiDi-ZWave (IBT4ZWAVE).

I am a true rookie to HA and have never used any Z-Wave devices before, so I’m a bit nervous.

The gate can be accessed via Wifi only (it’s far from the house). Can I connect the ZWave device using wifi? Is there any special thing I should know about ZWave devices?

Could I test how ZWave integrations work (in general) with some dummy devices, like a Raspberry or something?

Hi Viktor,

Do you have a follow up? I’m researching gate motors that I can control from home assistant and from a first glance this seems like a possibility.

Nothing to share yet. I’ll keep you posted once I got here.

@sanderhuisman If you are still interested. I finally bought a Fibaro BiDi-ZWave. It works relatively good with a few caveats.

  • Installation and initial setup were super simple. :white_check_mark:
  • I can control the gate :white_check_mark:

The surprising thing is the recognised HomeAssistant entity: it’s light :bulb:

As lights typically have only two states on/off, this means that I lose the opening and closing states of the gate.

The “switch” switches to off when closing finishes and it switches to on when opening finishes.
As a result, I can not partially open the gate and close it from there. I can not add automation that happens when the gate is being opened of closed.

Basically, I hit the button, the HomeAssitstant does not change, but the gate starts to move. Once the gate movement is finished, the HomeAssistant state changes.

It has a few other sensors too, but those are unused in my case as I don’t have a barrier attached.

@nagyv Where you possible to install the Fibaro BiDi-ZWave yourself? I thought you need a Nice pro account for this?

Did it ever change from light to gate in HA?
