Any idea why this Temperature Automation isn't working

I am trying to have a switch turn on my gas fireplace when a nearby sensor temperature is below 70 degrees F. I can execute the automation and it works fine but it is not working automatically. Any ideas why?

  alias: Fireplace on when cold
  description: ''
  trigger:
  - below: '70'
    entity_id: sensor.kitchen_button_temperature
    platform: numeric_state
  condition: []
  action:
  - device_id: 48db9b34415143b385efba4dd42619df
    domain: switch
    entity_id: switch.third_reality_inc_3rss008z_on_off
    type: turn_on
  - data:
      message: Fireplace on
    service: notify.notify
  mode: single

The temperature needs to change from above 70 to below 70 in order for the automation to trigger.

Did the temperature change from above 70 to below 70?

It didn’t work this morning but I just tested it by warming up the sensor and then putting it in the fridge and it worked! Thanks for the suggestion.

Think of below and above as thresholds. The trigger occurs when the threshold is crossed. After it has been crossed, no further triggers will occur. To reset the trigger, the value must re-cross it first (for below it must rise above below first) then when it crosses again it will trigger.
