Hi all, new here and excited to program my little HA hub. I have recently gotten a sonos arc and two sonos era 100s. I wanted to see if it was possible to automate the removing of surround speakers and stereo pairing of the sonos era 100s. I saw a post from 2020 about this (here: Sonos join/unjoin surround) and back then at least, there were no solutions. Has anyone found a solution to this since then?
Your request seems so specific (and probably the answer to your specific question is “no,” though I haven’t checked)—usually in this kind of situation I like to ask what the motivation is behind what you’re trying to do? In case there’s a better way.
Usually people pair left/right stereo in the Sonos app because they’ve physically set the speakers up in a way where that is the only way it makes sense to use them.
No, I haven’t found a solution. I’ve configured the back speakers as stereo and set an automation in HA that when the volume changes from my Beam, for example with the remote of the tv, the volume from the back speakers also change.
But not a join in stero / surround.
In my case, during the day it’s not a problem, but in the evening, when the kids are in bed, I want to lower the volume and then I can’t hear it clearly anymore, the distance from the sofa and the beam is about 5 meter. That’s when I’d like to have the rear speakers in stereo mode, since I’m sitting close to them, so that even at a low volume I can still hear everything clearly.
And during the day, in surround mode.
Surround systems have parameters that might help:
Switch to ‘music’ playback settings, which make them no surround speakers for tv,but act as normal speaker or give simuliation of accoustics options
Then there is ‘distance’ settings, which normally handle 2 things: volumen and sound delay.
If those are available in the integration, you could start playing around with these and have the main speakers lower volume and details sound from your ‘surround’
That capability does not exist in the integration (I’m the owner)
Can you do what you want from the Sonos App?
Kind of yes
