Any way to detect a camera feed loss?

I have a wall panel that has the following card on its dashboard:

show_state: false
show_name: true
camera_view: live
type: picture-entity
entity: camera.192_168_1_224
name: Driveway
camera_image: camera.192_168_1_224

The camera is a device of the generic camera integration and utilizes an rtsp stream from the camera.

Every day or two, the camera stops streaming to that wall panel. I have to manually refresh the page on the wall panel for the streaming to resume.

Is there a way to trigger an automation when that camera stops streaming to that specific dashboard? I would love to detect it so I can send a page refresh to that wall panel.

What does the camera state change to when this happens?

Idle or unavailable?

Also just FYI it is not best practice to start entity id’s with numbers. See: https://www.home-assistant.io/docs/configuration/templating/#entity_id-that-begins-with-a-number

The entity state stays idle when its working and also when it freezes on that one one dashboard. My main countertop tablet’s dashboard continues to show the stream for that camera without needing a periodic browser refresh. However on the problem wall panel, for example, the stream freezes and shows a static image with the time not incrementing kind of like its just frozen until I refresh the page.

The other cards on the dashboard of that wall panel are up-to-date and functioning including date, time, weather, temperature. I have another wall panel at another entrance that has the same tablet and it has the same card displaying a different camera, and it never freezes and never needs a browser refresh.

I’m running fully kiosk browser on all wall panels and main panel. I also have a Lenovo Thinksmart on a table that has the same camera on its dashboard but it never needs refreshed.

Regarding the enitity id starting with numbers, thanks for letting me know.

Ah ok, so it isn’t an issue with the camera, it’s your browser on one particular tablet.

Fully kiosk has a page auto-refresh option you could use.

Even if it is only once a day.

Fully Kiosk Settings → Web Auto Reload - >Auto Reload
