Had landscape lighting installed last year and am now getting into HA.
I see the “smart” part of the transformer is just a plug in module (here). When I check the router DHCP, it shows up as a Tuya Smart device. However, it uses it’s own app and there’s an Alexa integration that I use to control it.
Has anyone been able to get this to work with HA besides just tossing the Kichler device and replacing it with another outdoor smart plug (wi-fi, ZWave, Zigbee)?
I’ve done lots of Google searching, and that seems to be the only option?
I got one working with HA via the Tuya integration, you can just use the Kichler Connects app to get the required info since it’s just a Tuya app with Kichler branding. I think I used the LocalTuya integration from HACS, but it shouldn’t matter which one you use.
I install these regularly for work and just got curious.
@Nameless the other setup wouldn’t happen to be Brilliance would it? I haven’t tried it but I notice that aside from branding and polish the apps look identical.
I looked it up and I used Atomi lights from Costco in the past. Bought 8 lights and quality was so terrible that I had replaced so many over a couple years using their warranty that I believe I was up to like 15 or 16.
Sold that house and will never buy that brand again.
I got one of these Kichler timers and have gotten it set up and integrated into Home Asst as per the directions above [thanks!!].
The issue is that the lights came on when plugged in, and when I click on the icon to turn them off - they come right back on!! I did set up two integrations [1] turn on 15 minutes before sunset, and [2] turn off at 11:00 pm. Since I set the ‘power on’ behavior to be off, I was surprised it turned on the lights when it was powered up, and since it is the middle of the afternoon, I’m surprised the lights aren’t off.
Off the top of my head I’m thinking the timer may have gotten programed by the Kichler Connects app or the Tuya app and the device is still ‘calling home’ for instructions.
Humm - it does look like you’re on to something: I woke up to the lights having apparently never shut off, and when I go into Home Asst I can turn them off - but they turn back on after 2 seconds. BUT, if I go into the Tuya app on a phone and turn them off, they stay off. So, I will look into all the settings on the app and see if I can find something. My fear is this thing is programmed such that it will only properly respond to the app and not Home Asst.
Having worked on this a bit, I can now add insight for those who follow. I called Kichler, talked with customer support [to no avail], was eventually transferred to tech support. The tech support guy was helpful in troubleshooting, and determined the issue to be something in the Tuya app settings. We deleted the device from the app and reset the physical device to factory settings. Afterwards, I was able to add it to Home Asst using the Tuya integration. So far, it seems to be working. We will see whether it responds on schedule tonight [fingers crossed]. The only issue I have seen so far is when trying to add the device to an area [‘back yard’] - that triggered the device to rapidly turn on and off for 1-2 minutes. Hopefully that was a one-time issue, and the thing just works. I will write back if there is more insight, otherwise, it’s solved for me, too!!
