Found this bundle of wires behind the mirror I’m replacing. The wires are live regardless of nearby light switches so they seem to be a permanent power source.
Power supply for a WLED backlighting project behind the mirror.
I guess it’s too late to start a “magic mirror” project if you already have the replacement mirror.
It’s looks like a junction box for traveling wires. In US it must be accesible , trace wires.
I don’t! The replacement mirror was actually the original mirror until I dropped it.
Could have been for a mirror heater to prevent condensation. They attach to the back of the mirror and are available in various sizes. The electrical connection is made in the box and the mirror is the “cover”. Usually on the light or fan circuit so it’s not on 24/7.
Good for 99% of bathrooms, but my vanity is separate from the toilet and shower so no condensation builds up here. It’s a strange area, made stranger by this random, uncovered junction box of wires.
Start researching “magic mirror” then. Quite a few people have included home assistant.
+1 for the magic mirror suggestion, and if you use that bathroom at night, chuck in an LED strip behind it to avoid blinding you and making you lose sleep.
That’s an “old work” box… meaning it was installed after the drywall was up. So somewhere along the line after the house was completed, a new circuit was pulled through that wall and needed to be spliced there for whatever reason (is there a light fixture or something on the other side of the wall?). “Technically” it is still considered accessible with a non-glued (mounted with clips only) mirror in front of it, but an inspector would probably still fail it. Anything permanently mounted (such as a cabinet) would render it inaccessible by code, but if it were open to a Magic Mirror and providing it power that would be an exception (you can cover a junction box with the appliance/device it is supplying power to)
