OK, I have been a Home Assistant user for years (and use the Home Assistant companion app on my iPhone and iPad), but this is my first foray into mobile app complications / widgets / controls.
What I would like to do (if possible) is to be able to put something on my Apple Watch (complication in one of the watch faces, add something to WatchOS Control Center) that would allow me to easily turn on / off a light or switch from my Apple Watch.
With the release of IOS 18, Home Assistant has released several new controls to Control Center (Assist, Light, Switch, Cover, Script, Scene, Open Page). As a ‘start’, it would be nice to add a couple of switch controls so that I could easily (from my phone) turn on/off specific lights - but it really unclear how to actually do that. I can (for example) add a Home Assistant switch control, but then all I have on my iPhone Control Center is a ‘circle’ control with nothing inside it, and I cannot figure out how to ‘program’ that control to reflect a specific switch in my Home Assistant Network.
Even better, I would love to have something on my Apple Watch (series 10) that could do something similar (so I don’t have to reach into my pocket [especially on a snowy day], get my phone, turn it on, open the Home Assistant app, then turn on the appropriate switch). Whether it is:
- a complication that I could put on an alternate Apple Watch face, or
- (even better, but highly unlikely) press the side button on the watch to open the Control Center and have a new control icon that I could tap to turn on/off the light)
this capability would really be nice.
Matt (from Automation Fixation) has a pretty decent YouTube video (referenced by MikeStaub on this forum - thanks, Mike!), but it is old, and the directions (like adding an ‘Action’, which I believe I want to do) don’t match up with my Home Assistant Companion app - there is no option to add an action (like the video shows).
There is a lot of correspondence on the forums related to this topic, but it is (at least to me) not clear where to start. Based on what I have found, the most likely starting point for the iPhone is to utilize the Control Center. For the watch, if it is possible, the complication might be the best direction to take.
if anyone has any thoughts ‘for a newbie like me’ on this, I would appreciate seeing them. Thanks.
