Aqara Confirms Zigbee Light Switches Are Not Compatible With HA

Caution Aqara H1 Zigbee Light Switch Users

I have several Aqara H1 Zigbee wired light switches (with neutral) around the house. These worked fine, can be controlled via HA, act as a zigbee router, be used in automations etc.
I recently purchased some Zigbee Sonoff buttons (SONOFF SNZB 02P) to control bedside lamps, trigger actions etc.
After a while I noticed that pressing one of the Sonoff buttons caused an Aqara Light Switch to toggle. There were no automations, or bindings connecting these 2 devices.
Investigating this further I found that the Sonoff button made its Zigbee connection via that Aqara Light Switch. When the Sonoff button was deleted from the Zigbee network and reconnected closer to a different Zigbee Router the Aqara Light Switch didn't toggle. If the button was deleted and reconnected close to the Aqara Light Switch it started to toggle the light switch again.
It appears that the Aqara Zigbee Light Switches incorrectly toggle their own status when a Zigbee Switch which is routed through them is pressed. They seem to create an unofficial and unwanted binding automatically with the switch routed through them.
I raised this with Aqara Support and received the following reply:

Currently, our official platform does not support adding Aqara Zigbee protocol devices to the HA platform via 2MQTT or ZHA, as this may lead to certain abnormal issues and the relevant algorithm logic is also incompatible.
The supported methods are adding devices to the HA platform via Matter over Bridge. The Matter Bridge method requires you to have both an Aqara Hub and a Hub on the HA platform.

The current work around is to connect the Sonoff switch to the Zigbee network close to another router and then move it to its intended position. This however might only be a temporary solution as the network could reconfigure itself causing the button to again be routed via the light switch.

Are you using ZHA or Z2M?

I am using Z2M

Looks very similar. Button devices unexpectedly controlling Aqara switches. Looks like it could be more than just the Sonoff buttons that can accidentally trigger the Aqara light switches.
You would have to be very careful using Aqara Zigbee light switches with HA, solution seems to require the Aqara Hub! Or like some people, have a second Zigbee coordinator/network just for the Aqara stuff
