Hi all
The FP300 seemed like the ‘perfect’ device for presence sensing when announced, but since obtaining one I’m have quite a lot of difficulty getting it to work reliably with HA.
The first issue (unrelated to HA) seems to be a physical design issue and I’ve yet to find a way to overcome. In essence if ceiling mounted the device cannot be angled beyond a very shallow level, which seems to prevent it from achieving the 6m range quoted by the manufacturer. The only way I can see to overcome this would be some kind of additional mount between the device and ceiling which increases the angle. That would probably need to be 3d printed (not a capability I have sadly), but I’m interested in whether anyone else here has tried ceiling mounting and what your experience has been?
Beyond that I’ve been in touch with Aqara support as having failed to get it working ceiling-mounted I’ve then moved it to wall mounted. It still fails to achieve the quoted 6m range when installed at the precise height recommended by Aqara. In the course of discussions with support, they’ve advised that it is not supported to bind the device to anything other than an Aqara hub which seems ridiculous to me. They claim that may result in issues.
I then asked if it could be bound via another method/protocol (I’m aware of Matter/Thread compatibility), but it seems that too is limited. As I’m only really interested in the motion/presence aspect right now, I’m wondering if it would be better to accept the limitations of those other protocols and go that route.
What would other suggest in this scenario?
Thanks in advance!
