Hi. I’ve been using Aqara H2 EU (WS-K08D) in zigbee mode (via zigbee2mqtt) for some time now and had no issues with those switches. I recently got SLZB-MR1 and decided to try Matter.
Installing zigbee2mqtt + mqtt server is really more straightforward than enabling matter/thread in Home Assistant, but that is not the issue here. I reflashed one of the switches back to Matter mode (they come with Matter mode by default). Got it running in Home Assistant and… am dissapointed:
In Zigbee2Mqtt I can control the switch LED indicators. I always set those to be on when the switch is off, which, by the way, is not the default option. The LED indicators help to see the switch when it’s dark in the room - why would they be on when the switch is on? Anyway - in Matter mode I cannot see any option to change the behaviour of those indicators.
By default those switches have two relay switches and two wireless switches - great. In zigbee mode using wireless switches is simple - in Matter mode a pain in the … Is this how the future of smart home is going to look like?
Anyway, putting aside the wireless switches for now, has anybody found a way to control LED indicators in Matter mode?
Hi there,
I’m using the switch in the bathroom, to control the light, when it is beyond the thresholds for the presence sensor. In the manual of the switch you can read in a table what is possible in matter mode and what in zigbee mode. So if you had read the manual you were not quit disappointed. If this behavior is some time changed by an update, nobody knows.
My problem is, I use the switch as delivered (in matter mode) and would likely change it to zigbee mode. But how can I do this without a Aqara Hub and the Aqara App?
Without the Aqara app it might be difficult, but I do not have an Aqara hub and was able to flash between Matter and Zigbee firmware (I think the device needs to be freshly reset) with only the Aqara app on my Android device.
To switch between modes all you need is Aqara App. Install it, create an account/login. Press any relay button 10 times to put the switch to pairing mode. Turn on wifi and BT on your phone and in Aqara App ‘Add new device’. After a few seconds the app will ask what mode you want: zigbee or matter - choose what you want and follow on screen instructions.
This does not say anything about Home Assistant and zigbee2mqtt. It only says about features avaliable with Aqara hubs (zigbee/thread). Anyway, I reverted back to zigbee, as it has much more options in that mode avaliable via Home Assistant.
