I ran into this issue, but was able to resolve by clicking “cancel” a few times. Cancel wouldn’t work from my iOS device but did work from my Android device. Their software is still a bit wonky.
I’ve picked up one of these bad boys for the bedroom so I can automate an air purifier when someone enters/exits the room, a night light when we get out of bed, and my desk lights coming on when I sit down to work (but not if someone is in bed).
One thing I ran into when setting up and doing the HomeKit removal from Apple Home → pair to Home Assistant dance was that my Eero router had HomeKit security enabled which kicked the FP2 off the Wi-Fi network and prevent Home Assistant from pairing with it.
After disabling HomeKit Security in the Eero app (and turning the Eero Thread radio off as I don’t even use it), all was well. Zones syncing as separate binary sensors and the light sensor also comes in nicely.
Not a bad little sensor! Now I want one for the living room…
Thanks! This helped me and I tried quite a few things before.
Anyone manage to get any advance feature available in HA, like custom zone detection or number of people detected?
I’m not sure what you mean by custom zone detection, but HomeKit exposes any zone you add as another sensor that HA sees. You can view the full list by looking at the device. They do have generic names, so you might have to do some sleuthing to figure out which is which and rename them.
As for the number of people, it does not appear that’s available.
My spouse and I apparently sleep the sleep of the dead. The FP2 I have in the bedroom that is pointed right at the bed has a really hard time telling that we are there all night. I got probably 20 different “absence” notices (and eventual presence notices) over about 8 hours. Meanwhile in the guest bathroom the vent pulling air from the space rustles the curtain enough (not that I can see it moving) to keep that sensor saying there is always someone in the bathroom.
I’ve found work arounds for both (use Room Assistant bluetooth as a secondary presence detector in the bedroom, mark the shower outside the “edge” of the bathroom), and I know the success with these things is probably very dependent on the space and positioning. So no need for suggestions, I’m just sharing my experience so far.
Related to that, I’m not sure in my space I’ll ever get these accurate enough to actually use them to control the lights on entry/exit. I had one light doing that, and it turned on and off about a dozen times last night. I did find two interference zones in the kitchen, but I had to watch my phone for 20 minutes in the middle of the night to find them. I wish the log in the app also had a “playback” of the graphic with the little person icon. That would help narrow these kind of things down.
Hi All,
After tinkering with this a bit more, I’m wondering if anyone came across the same “issue”.
I created 2 zones on Aqara app, joined it to HA, and HA picked up 3 presence detection sensors. (I thought it should only picked up 2) - so I guess this is problem no. 1
Secondly, I added it into HA about 13 hours ago, and just now, only 1 of the sensor still works - problem no. 2
I’m just wondering if there’s a way for me to factory reset this thing? as removing it from the app doesn’t seems to be resetting the device completely.
Can’t speak to your second problem, but you will always get N+1 sensors (where N is the number of zones you create). The sensor numbered one is the presence sensor for the entire area the FP2 can see. The ones after that are all your zones.
Ah, I see. thanks. that makes sense.
I just found a way to factory reset it, I will try this tomorrow to see if the problem persist with the sensors fell off of HA. Cheers
Does anybody know how to reconnect the sensor back to HomeKit? I added the sensor and then removed the sensor as per the instructionser. However, I could not add the sensor to Home Assistant.
Now I am trying to re-add the sensor to HomeKit and I am getting a message that says an unknown error occurred after The sensor tries for several minutes to connect to HomeKit.
I did try to reset by holding the button down for 10 seconds, which caused the light to flash yellow, then factory reset the device by rapidly pressing the button 10 times that also caused the rice to flash yellow

I am thinking that there is some thing that is not allowing the Wi-Fi to reconnect to this device because it is previously connected. I have a UniFi dream machine router if that would make a difference.
If you haven’t done so already you have to turn off 5ghz when pairing. Actually looks like you have wifi already connected ? your just trying to get it back into HomeKit?
I have the FP2 connected to Wifi and set up in the Aqara app, however when I try to add the HomeKit Controller integration, Home Assistant says “No unpaired devices could be found”. I don’t own any Apple devices or HomeKit, so I have never paired it to that.
What might I be doing wrong?
Have you added it to the home app first? It so then it needs deleted from the home app prior to adding to home assistant.
Worst case you can remove the device from the Aqara app. That should also remove it from the Apple Home stuff. You will have to set it up from scratch again though.
In my experience so far (as I’m not on Apple ecosystem), all I had to do was to register it using Aqara app (on android). Once it’s joined to my Wifi network (and I only have 1 subnet). HA automatically detected it. (Homekit integration).
So all I had to do was put the pin number on the back and Bob’s your uncle or Jane’s your auntie.
My challenge at the moment is finding the right spot for it as it detected my laptop and monitor as person.
this device is not perfect but the detection ability / refresh rate is AMAZING!
I don’t have FP1, but just wondering if anyone’s got FP1, does the refresh rate the same on them?
the more I use FP2, the more I realise that it’s probably an over kill for certain rooms in my house and I do not have a massive open plan room with different lights in different section of it.
The FP1 is much slower to detect motion and inactivity as well. In that regard the FP2 is far superior. It looks like positioning of the FP2 and proper set up of the zones is vital to the FP2 functioning correctly.
The Fp2 is Amazing, I have them mounted in corners about 8’ high maybe 5 to 10 degrees down angle. 12 ’ ceilings.Once I figured out how they see the room and I do some tweaks to the edges these things are extremely accurate. No clue how they’re not picking up my 140 lb American Bulldog even when he gets on the furniture. It’s mind blowing how it see’s the room when it’s mounted in a corner hard to describe but it sees the walls my sectional sofa is on as one wall. Meaning it sees the couch walls as one straight wall there’s no second wall to form the opposite corner.
Thank you. When you say “Have you added it to the home app first?”, is that the Apple Home app? Or something else.
I don’t have any Apple devices (no iPhone, no HomeKit, etc), so if you mean the Apple Home app, then no. I have only added it to the Aqara app, which worked fine. Home assistant is still not detecting anything when I add the HomeKit Controller integration. Anyone else facing this issue?
Strange one can’t help you then I’m afraid. When I first set up the sensor it basically tried adding it to Apple home before even setting up with the Aqara app. That’s the only reason I was asking because it was quite subtle.
I struggled too. Somewhere above in this topic you can find how i solved it.
