Aqara Switches (no hub) with Google Home

Hi,

I have a number of Aqara smart switches (Xiaomi WS-EUK01 control via MQTT | Zigbee2MQTT) working perfectly with Home Assistant over Zigbee2MQTT using the SkyConnect USB dongle. Does any one know if its possible to get the Aqara switches to be recognised by the Google Home app without having the Aqara hub? When I try and set up a new device in the Google Home app using the “Set up a device” option, then “Works with Google” and select “Aqara for EU and UK” I get the message “No compatible devices were found in your Aqara for EU…” (it looks like part if the message is being cut off) in the app. Ideally I would prefer not to add an Aqara hub as an additional piece of hardware, but if I had to purchase the Aqara hub to integrate the switches with the Google Home app, how would the Aqara hub work with the existing SkyConnect dongle? Or would they essentially be duplicating the same functionality so ther would be no need for both? Or can they co-exists together.

I appreciate any comments or advice that any one has to offer.

Regards,

Matt

Hello Matt,
Zigbee devices can only be connected to one hub/controller at a time. As you have paired your switch to the SkyConnect dongle then they cannot be paired to a second hub at the same time. The only way to pair it with an additional hub/controller would be to put the switch back in pairing mode to allow the new hub/controller to see and pair with the switch. However, this would remove the switch from Home Assistant.

I do not use any Google Home devices so I am not sure how to get this working with devices already paired up with Home Assistant, but I think you could do this with a Nabu Casa subscription. I do not use either as I have all of my devices in HA and I do not use voice control.

Thanks Darran. I might have to do some more research on this.

Any update on this? I am in the same boat. I’m using a Sonoff Zigbee dongle using the Zigbee Home Automation to link the Aqara devices to HA. Would love to have the light switches linked to Google Home.
