Very bad overall communication indeed. I had high hopes for the device but i realized my own thing now using AI on the edge. Needs some patience and tinkering but after a few rounds of trial and error works perfectly fine
@elemakil sorry, the previous Discord link was only valid for 30 days. Please use the permanent one below:
I’ll answer technical questions there, while our backers can share their real-world feedback.
Aquaro is now close to the finish line, with only a few issues left. We’ve just released our new data platform for backer testing.
For HA we currently use MQTT, exposing flow, lifetime consumption (for Energy Dashboard), battery, Wi-Fi and RF signal. HACS is planned next, while MQTT will remain supported. With the main stability issues largely resolved, we’re now focusing more on features and exposing additional data such as leaks.
Accuracy is around 0.01 L/min on plastic pipes and up to 0.2 L/min on metal, with 5-second averaging reducing this further. We also have manual flow calibration and plan to add calibration against your water utility consumption.
A lot of Aquaro has been shaped by community feedback already—USB-C sensor power was one such request.
@yolani I’m not sure what went wrong in your case. Was there an issue with your device, and did you contact us through Discord or [email protected]?
We’ve been supporting our backers directly and providing replacements whenever a hardware issue couldn’t be resolved. If there is still an unresolved issue with your Aquaro, please reach out and we’ll have a look.
Hi, does this mean, that it currently is not in stock for ordering?
On the website it looks like you can already buy it without any waiting time.
Would be very interested in this device.
The “AI” part about classifying water usage to different categories,
is this also exposed as counters to MQTT?
Like cumulative / total amount of toilet flushes, so you could use the HA database / aggregated statistics to retrieve something like “ok, we flushed the toilet 3 times so far today”?
All in all, looks like a very cool project and I always like to support small companies with good ideas in hope that we all see better products in the smart home market.
I’ll paste my answer from Discord here as well, so others who might be interested have the same information:
We still have some units in stock and we’re already assembling the next batch, which will be ready in September. All the updates we’re currently working on are software-related, not hardware changes.
The AI/event classification is currently disabled while we’re reworking it. The first step is our new data platform, and the initial testing is looking positive. Soon we’ll start the second testing stage focused on data accuracy, and after that we’ll continue with event classification.
Currently, classification data isn’t exposed through MQTT, but it definitely will be. So things like detected events and appliance usage will eventually be available to Home Assistant as well.
For the past half year, most of our development effort went into resolving the sensor connectivity issues, so features and improvements such as deeper HA integration were temporarily on hold. Now that this is largely behind us, we’re shifting our focus back to these features.
And thank you for the kind words and support—we really appreciate it! ![]()
OMG - my Aquaro and HA installations now (finally!) agree with each other to about 1% difference. Yay!
Now, if only I can figure out how to get a day-by-day graph of total usage (which is actually all I care about) rather than consumption-as-it-happens (which I care about but is FAR less important).
Great ![]()
Regarding the graph, do you mean in Home Assistant or in our app? Are you using the energy dashboard?
I seem to have solved that with the aid of Claude. Not elegant, but it works. I use both the Energy Dashboard and a separate one (wife!). And I have the app on my phone so can compare them.
Next project is to put a second one at the wellhead so I can compare my “outside the house” use from my “inside the house” use…so what I use on gardens etc. will be the difference.
Ok great! What pipe diameter is coming out of your well? We can then sort out the best way to add the second sensor there.
Thanks - I’ll measure when I have time (probably next week) and will have to see if I can find a suitable location…not sure my “output” tube has enough horizontal or vertical space on it to mount the second unit…will have to see! (I can post a photo if need be.)
Great! You can send me a photo to see the space available. I’ll give you my feedback on whether it will work. Feel free to email it to [email protected]
