At a loss - did I lose everything?

Hey everyone,

I’m reaching out because I’m at my wit’s end with my Home Assistant (HA) Green device and could really use some guidance.

TL;DR: After attempting to restore a backup, I have complete inaccessibility to the interface, despite the device being connected to my local network. The yellow LED blinks normally, even after performing a factory reset. I’m not sure if that factory reset worked - the yellow light blinked once a second and never turned off while the MicroSD was plugged in. I’m seeking advice on additional troubleshooting steps to regain access and fully restore my backup.

Backstory: I recently tried to restore a backup on my HA Green. After the first attempt, I noticed that all my automations and scripts had vanished. I thought maybe something went wrong during the restoration, so I tried restoring from the backup again. Unfortunately, this made things worse. Now, I can’t access the HA interface at all. The strange part? My router shows that the HA device is connected to the local network, but no matter what I try, I can’t get into the interface.

What I’ve tried:

  1. Multiple restorations: I’ve attempted to restore the backup several times, but each time, the results are the same or worse.
  2. Factory reset: I followed the official guidelines to perform a factory reset on the HA Green device. After the reset, the yellow LED blinks once every second, and I still can’t access the interface. When I remove the MicroSD and reboot, leds blink normally, but still no access.
  3. Network checks: I’ve confirmed through my router that the HA device is connected and has an assigned IP address.
  4. Direct connection: I connected a monitor and keyboard directly to the HA device, hoping to gain some insight. Unfortunately, nothing displayed that could help me diagnose the issue.

Current : Post-factory reset, I remain locked out of the HA interface. I’ve tried accessing it via http://homeassistant.local:8123 and directly through the assigned IP address, but both methods have failed.

I thought I had done everything well by plugging in a USB key the last time I had to reset the device, a fews months ago, and I believe I had set it to have all the backups in it, but I’m not sure if it will work to restore a backup from it after reset?

Seeking wisdom: Has anyone else faced a similar challenge with their HA Green device? Are there additional troubleshooting steps or solutions I might have overlooked? I’m eager to restore my setup and get things back to normal.

Any advice, insights, or shared experiences would be immensely appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

Have you attempted to restore another backup?

have you tried https:// ???

This one caught me out a few times when I started out. After a clean new install its http://, but when restored if you have Nabu (at least i think that uses https) or access from outside your network via Duckdns or similar it will be https://

Thanks for taking the time.
Unfortunately I lost access after the second restore, and I only tried the one

I did try https, good point… I go through Tailscale for https remote access, instead of Nabu Casa.

It’s weird because I do get the same interface on https://[domain].ts.net, namely the forever looping can’t access screen by Home Assistant.
But be it http, https with either [ip]: or homeassistant.local:, I get the same screen, “unable to connect”

Have you restarted your HA server?

It’s a HA Green and I’ve reset it to factory /reinstalled it

I forgot to mention that I’ve plugged a screen in, and all I have is “waiting for the home assistant cli to be ready”

No, I meant have you restarted your HA green after the restore of the backup.
Not factory reset it.
