Attn: Vera users (past and present)

If you’ve ever been a Vera user and had an account with MiCasa Verda, now Ezlo, you’ve most likely received several emails about the upcoming conversion to a paid cloud service model. It stated that if you wanted to continue to use their cloud backup and recovery services you needed to sign up before your account was disabled. No where did it state that you would be automatically enrolled in their paid service.
Today I received an invoice demanding payment for the cloud service. After trying to contact the billing department only to be disconnected twice, I call tech services. The service tech informed me that the ‘invoice’ I received was not actually a bill, but rather an opportunity to sign up for the service. After carefully reading every word it is clear that the email is not a friendly opportunity to sign up, but rather a forceful and deceitful way to squeeze money out of past customers.
I mothballed my Vera years ago, so no real loss for me that their cloud is now pay to use, but I am not happy about their business ethics. I was very clear to the tech services guy that this type of ‘advertising’ is deceitful and unethical.
If you received a similar bill please call Ezlo and express your concerns as well.
