Hey folks, looking for some recommendations for cheap, controllable, certified EVSE for Australia.
Current setup is:
Fronius Primo 5kW inverter + Smart meter & 5kW of panels (small townhouse, as much as I can fit).
Trickle charger with variable (set at start start of charge) amperage from 6-15A.
Dedicated 15A circuit/socket w/ Shelly EM1 and a contactor for the circuit for remote halt of charge.
I know that there are plenty of L2 “smart” options that will integrate directly with my smart meter/inverter, but they’re honestly overkill and quite expensive. I recently discovered EVCC which is a software-based solution to control power flow between solar → battery/EV so I shouldn’t need the hardware-based smarts. Guessing I’ll mostly be wanting to filter to OCPP-compliant chargers?
I will be getting the dedicated 15A circuit upgraded to the 32A for the L2. Hoping someone has some recommendations (or gotchas) on cheap but reliable locally controllable EVSE in Australia.
I got a free EV Switch 7kW charger with my Seal, they’re about $700 to purchase online.
Comes with OCPP 1.6 and I’ve integrated with EVCC for smart control and it connects to my enphase solar, and HA using the EVCC integration available in HACS.’
The one thing I don’t know is whether it can be installed on a max 15A circuit, give it’s a 32A charger, so you’ve need to upgrade the circuit and cabling.
Thanks for the tip! Seems like a decent option and well-known enough if BYD are giving them away/recommending them.
I did forget to mention I’d definitely be upgrading the circuit to the 1-phase max of 32A so thanks for the check. Was just saying that my current situation was the 15A circuit.
