no but I have a conbee so am using that add-on, not z2m. I’d be very surprised if it works, the tech support said I need to use a specific Wiser app and their hub.
Of course he said that. Philips would probably tell me I cannot update their motion sensor without their hub. But it ain’t true.

FWIW I bought one of these (41EPBDWCLMZ-VW) recently and had it installed in my wall.
Mine is the Zigbee default mode model. After install, i switched it to BLE mode, ran the firmware update, then switched it back to Zigbee mode.
I can confirm it the double press issue is no longer present, but I didn’t test if I had that issue pre-firmware update.
My only two minor nit picks (other than price) are:
- When turning on to a brightness lower than 50% (lets say 10% for this example) via zigbee2mqtt or the wall button, the lights turn on to 50%, then lowers itself down to the target brightness. I am assuming it does this to avoid delays in the lights turning on at super low brightness (something I get on a traditional dimmer).
- You can’t adjust the brightness without turning on the lights. I don’t know if this is a zigbee2mqtt limitation, or a dimmer limitation, but I had hoped to have an automation that triggered at night that set all dimmers to 20% brightness, so if we turned them on with the button in the middle of the night, they would come on at a low brightness.
Very few lights allow this. The only one I know of is Lifx.

Yes I was able to update the firmware in BLE mode, but apparently it doesn’t update the zigbee firmware. For me at least, I still have the double press bug. Have tested it many many times. This is verbatim from tech support:
The firmware taken from our older app Wiser Room was a final update consisting of BLE and Zigbee firmware to get older devices the ability to activate the Zigbee chip and also compatibility with the new app Wiser by SE, this firmware package is basic Zigbee and basic compatibility with the new app. Newer firmware must be taken from the new app Wiser by SE but is no longer in a bundle and firmware is given based on the connection ie if you connect a mech in BLE you get BLE firmware and if you connect via Zigbee you get Zigbee firmware.
When we were initially testing the system this ‘double press’ was seen and patched in later firmware, but as described this updated firmware and updated firmware for any of our Zigbee products is locked behind using the App and in turn using the Wiser Hub.
If you were thinking of fitting out the house with the Wiser products I would recommend using the Hub even if you use it just for firmware updates, but we are restricted in the support we can give if you are not using our Hub as our devices have not been tested with 3rd party products and we cannot guarantee that the products will act as expected or required.
The cynic in me says “buy their hub, update the firmware in the mech, then send the hub back for a refund.”
EDIT actually the device shipped with faulty firmware. You have consumer rights, action them.
agree updating firmware and then returning the hub is an option. When you purchase probably the most expensive zigbee module on the market, you expect perfection. This is not it.
Which consumer rights - return the items for a refund?

It can operate in Bluetooth or 2.4GHz wifi modes. The manual is available on that page.
Right yes didn’t see the manual. It has quite a bit of detail.
But I think the WiFi connectivity might be via a Bluetooth gateway?
So I think they’re BLE? Maybe traditional Bluetooth too? Not sure though.

Great to see this effort.
Could you please refer to NZ as well as we have a combined regulatory regime for approval of electrical devices? In fact the “standard” is an AU/NZ one.
My friend, be careful making ‘modifications’ or ‘transplants’ to devices. Because if something goes wrong and your house burns down or heaven forbid you end up killing someone you are pretty much screwed.
You may have other options available to you.
It’s nothing more than alternative firmaware.
