Auto fallback to working Slot on failed OS Update

As we have seen with the OS 15 update, many people (including myself) have dead HA servers now. And I for one, have no way to get my hands on it for a couple of days (at the least).

There needs to be a way (if possible) for HA to recognize that its boot failed and it’s stuck at the GRUB menu to then switch to the previous Slot and reboot automatically.

This has happened before, and will happen again. Some type of auto-recovery script needs to be implemented. HA isn’t just for home automation anymore, its also for Home Security, and there is none when its dead.

Thank you for your time.

Hello lianyu,

It should just revert to the second slot if the update fails, but I guess sometimes it gets hung and cannot know it has failed.

The Backup is to reboot 3 times, and if unsuccessful, it will select the other slot.

So in effect it has this ability, and that is a description of it I got from someone that knows how it works.

If you want to discuss a different way of handling it specifically, then perhaps this is still an open [FR], but otherwise this could be closed as already implemented.
