This is actually kind of crazy for anyone building Home Assistant stuff.
Autodesk now has a Claude connection for Fusion 360, which means you can describe what you want in normal language and have AI help turn that into real editable geometry inside Fusion.
For Home Assistant people, this could be massive.
Think about all the random custom parts we always need:
3D printed ESPHome enclosures
mmWave sensor mounts
camera brackets
wall plates
tablet dashboard mounts
DIN rail adapters
little holders for relays, sensors, power supplies, mini PCs, antennas, whatever
Normally you either have to find something close on Printables, learn enough CAD to make it yourself, or ask someone else to model it. Now the workflow is getting closer to:
“Make me a wall mount for an LD2410 sensor that angles down 20 degrees, fits this case size, has two screw holes, and a cable channel in the back.”
Then you can tweak it in Fusion instead of starting from nothing.
Obviously you still need to measure properly, check tolerances, think about heat, strength, wiring, and safety. AI is not magic. But for all the little custom smart home parts that slow projects down, this is a big deal.
Home Assistant already lets regular people automate their house without being full time software engineers. This feels like the same thing happening for physical design.
We are getting really close to the point where your smart home idea can go from “I wish this existed” to “I printed it tonight.”
