Automatic door opener

I would like to purchase a mechanism to automatically open a fish tank cabinet door when the temperature inside the cabinet exceeds a certain temperature. Any recommendations on a mechanism that would open the door?

Try look at this

This looks a heck of a lot like my Coop Controls chicken coop door operator.

or the same thing from Aliexpress for -$10

It’s got built in limit stops, so you could control it with one of these or a two relays version, just had this one in my history and cost is similar.

12v+ to open and 12v- to close or visa versa.

You could use this or this (not water proof or contained) for the temp.

Only you know what kind of door(s) you have…
Esp + motor-driver + actuator.

Thank you, I currently have a Zigbee temperature sensor in the cabinet that would be used to trigger an automation to open the door at 85 degrees.

No problem with that, but to suggest actuator you need to post info about your door.

Here’s a picture of the cabinet door.

Whats wrong with temp controlled cooling fans? when you run them slow enough they are almost not noticebale and you dont have to create a speedbump sticking into the room

Almost any actuator can open/close that door. But you have to find a place to fix it on the side wall…

I’m going to hop onto this thread as I’m looking for an automatic door opener AND closer, but it needs to be able to be opened by humans too

The actuators above looks like they would work to push it open, but don’t seem like they would work on reverse, and if they were fixed would break on human usage

It’s also perfectly possible I’m not thinking this through correctly as I’ve not really used anything like this before!

So once open, forever open??

They are heavily geared, so you can’t use the door manually, but you can add a button for “manual” operation.

Yeah - that’s not going to work in my use case…

We have a utility room with a cat litter tray in it - our cats are outside cats, but locked in overnight - we only want the door open overnight (they generally do their business outside but our older cat gets lazy)

At the moment, if we forget to close the door (or worse, forget to open it) when the cat door is locked I have an announcement on Alexa that will remind us to close / open
It’s fine, but kinda annoying and requires sometimes running downstairs to shut the door or whatever.

So, really would like to find a way to open and close the utility door automatically instead of the announcement. But of course, it’s a utility room so we need to enter easily too

I guess the alternative is that I could have a door over where the cat litter tray is (this would be a bigger job as it’s just an empty space at the moment)
