Automation not triggering aquarium temp sensor

Hi all,

I have a very simple automation, or so i thought , but its been a while since i did stuff with automations

I want to have HA send and alert if my aquarium is below a certain temperature.

I can see the temp on the sensor in my dashboard and in the automation and to test I had set it to below 25 degrees c for 30 seconds, which should trigger it almost instantly but it doesnt. When i run the automation automatically it sends the notify to my phone fine, what am i missing here?

Below the yam of my automation

Check the traces for the automation and let us know what it says.

Use numeric state instead of device for it to work correctly.

If not try removing the wait time, this is just guessing that your sensor is updating more often than 30 seconds, therefore the time will never complete.

When automations are run manually, it just runs the actions… any conditions you have are ignored.

It still requires a state change, so if the temperature isn’t changing, the trigger won’t fire. For testing purposes, can manually change the state using the State tool.

I don’t see any major issues with your automation. Check the automation’s debug traces for clues about what is stopping the automation from running.

FWIW, one thing I would do would be to limit the trigger to values below your threshold:

trigger: temperature.changed
target:
  device_id: 42971166ec103e9447f788f7cb8c99f7
options:
  threshold:
    type: below
    value:
      number: 25
      unit_of_measurement: °C

That will cut down on the number of useless traces from times when the temp above your threshold.
