Automation traces missing

Today I went to investigate an automation that seems to be misbehaving, and I found that all its recent traces are missing. This automation runs daily on a timer, and I can tell it is definitely running because the heater is turning on when it should. (And because the log book show it ran). But the last trace showing is from a week ago.

I checked the log from the time when it ran and didn’t see anything relevant. How can I troubleshoot this further?

So, you have some traces, just not the most recent ones?

Do you have access to the .storage directory on disk? The traces are stored there as files. Maybe first check whether you see the most recent trace there or not.

Also, when you navigate to the entity and then (or directly) to the device, please double check whether you have other automations acting on it.

That’s where you scroll thru the saved traces.
If you need more that the default 5 traces, you can configure to add more.

They need more recent ones, not older traces. The right arrow is greyed out in the screenshot, meaning that the latest trace they have is from 10 days ago.

Increasing the stored traces won’t help if the missing traces are the most recent ones

Then it didn’t run.
I didn’t look at the times, but some things can run multiples quick and overrun the 5 default. I thought that’s where they were.
