AutoNest — visual floor plan + automation builder with live simulation (preview)

Hi everyone!

I’m relatively new to the Home Assistant community, and like many of you, I quickly got addicted to the power of automations. However, as my setup grew, I found it harder to visualize how my rules would actually play out across the house.

To help with this, I’ve been building AutoNest.

It’s a browser-based floor plan editor where you:
• Draw rooms, place 40+ device types (lights, sensors, climate, locks, cameras…)
• Build IF/THEN/ELSE automations with a visual rule builder
• Run a live simulation — time of day, weather, motion, lux all tick forward and your rules fire in real time
• Export any rule as Home Assistant YAML, or import an existing HA blueprint

What you can do right now (Free in Beta):

  • Visual Canvas: Sketch your layout and place devices (lights, sensors, climate) with precise wall-snapping.
  • The Simulator: “Test” your logic on the floor plan in real-time (e.g., “If I walk into the kitchen at 11 PM, do the right lights actually come on?”).
  • HA Sync: Export your designs directly to Home Assistant YAML or import your existing automations to visualize them on your map.

Why I’m here & The Map Ahead: I’m currently in a Community Beta phase. All the features currently in the tool (including the YAML export) are free to use while I’m gathering feedback.

Long-term, my goal is to keep the core experience “Freemium”—I want the basic visual design and simulation features to stay free for the community. I do have some “power-user” features planned for a Pro tier later (like the ability to import a 2D PDF floorplan and have the structure built automatically), but right now, I’m just focused on making the core tool as useful as possible.

I’d love your honest suggestions:

  • Does the visual simulation feel like a useful way to debug complex rules?
  • How can I make the YAML export/import fit more seamlessly into your workflow?
  • As a power user, what features would you find most valuable? (e.g., PDF import, advanced logic debugging, multi-room sync?)

I’m genuinely excited to learn from this community. If you have a few minutes to check out the beta and share your thoughts, I’d be incredibly grateful!
