Averages over the same values

Hi

Trying to get some averages but it’s difficult with no state changes

I have 5 helpers

  1. A counter called “Tasks Completed”
  2. A sensor that is just the value of tasks completed (This is pointless but the utility meter can’t use a counter)
  3. The Utility meter that is daily for the sensor Tasks completed
  4. A sensor for “Yesterday Tasks Completed” which is just the last_period on the utility meter
  5. And finally an statistic for average daily tasks completed which uses the Yesterday Tasks Completed sensor

First, why can’t the utility meter use the counter, It seems unnecessary to have to create a sensor that it can read from?

Secondly, my daily counter can look like this, 1, 4, 0, 0, 2,

But since the state is not changing, my average will only pick up this 1,4,0,2 and therefore be incorrect.

Is there a better way to be doing this?
